I Heart Photograph - New Jersey

Laurel Ptak’s blog I Heart Photograph has spawned a massive group show (189 artists, worldwide) called “Is it Possible To Make a Photograph of New Jersey Regardless of Where You Are in the World”, which will include my photograph from Macon, Georgia, below. She’s posted a preview here. The show opens on April 6th at Pierro Gallery.

I wanted to thank Steve Aishman, Susan Hadorn and Savannah College of Art & Design (in Atlanta) for having me as a guest lecturer for the MFA in Photography students last week. It was much fun, and I look forward to doing it again sometime soon!

I have a print from this past summer in a group show called “A Thousand Words” at Composition Gallery in Atlanta. The show opens on March 15th from 7-10pm, and will be up through April 27th. We made this for WFMU’s “Rudy Guliani 9/11 Remix Contest” and won the “Listener’s Choice” award. The DJ played it on the radio, and people voted for it. I’d like to think it’s the real reason Rood lost Florida (and nearly 40 million bucks!). It’s archived on music.whileseated.org.

Photojojo did a generous write-up of Unphotographable last week, and they even made a custom image which kinda thrilled me, because that’s how the whole thing started, with me riding my bike in Ethiopia, not carrying a camera, for once.

Photojojo » Unphotographable – Word Accounts of the Photographs That Got Away. And this led it showing-up elsewhere (2), too. It’s been fun to watch these waves of unphotographable interest roll through over the years.

Fray Issue 1: Busted! - Busted in Jena by Michael David Murphy: I just received contributor’s copies of Derek Powazek’s latest magazine “Fray” with my story “Busted in Jena”.

The piece attempts to explore and investigate (in words and pictures) my interest and conflicted ambivalence in photographing the noose-inspired events in Jena, Louisiana in the summer of ‘07.
